WELCOME
Dear Colleagues,
Based on the process of ageing of the population, in the last decades, all types of surgeons, including neurosurgeons, have become aware of the growing importance of the elderly as a group demanding medical attention, taking into account that surgical indications for younger population cannot be automatically be considered applicable to geriatric people.
When the neurosurgeons find themselves in the position to having to decide whether or not to operate elderly patients suffering from an intracranial or spinal disease the most important questions to answer are the following: will the patient truly benefit from the surgery? Will the patient's quality of life and chances of survival improve?

The present meeting will give the opportunity to share and discuss these issues in the main neurosurgical topics, through the exchange of information by several specialists, with the goal to define specific diagnostic-therapeutic paths for this type of patients.
We wish you a pleasant and fruitful stay in Castagneto Carducci.

CASTAGNETO CARDUCCI
Charming medieval village,
countryside married with enchanting shady hills, studded by fantastic green pinewoods and wild beaches caressed by the waves of a wonderful crystal clear sea, Castagneto Carducci opens its heart to one of the most renowned Wine Routes in the world, blessing touristic welcome by a mix of flavours, landscapes, perfumes in a sweet temperate climate, also warmed by a magic hot atmosphere of poetry, culture, history, nature, and friendly hospitality. This is also the Heart of Etruscan Coast, with the famous Della Gherardesca Medieval Castle ruins, Giosuè Carducci House Museum with its cultural centre and Literary Park, with the ancient Fortress in the beach dating eighteen century, with the first Natural Reserve of WWF in Bolgheri. Famous Roma Theatre, the location of our Congress, and all around there is the possibility to enjoy historical Parks, archaeological and naturalistic views, interlaced by many bike and trekking itineraries, mirrors of a extraordinary beauty. Along the Wine route it’s possible to taste some of the most highly-prized wines in all Europe, also extra-virgin Olive Oil production here is the headwork of typical high quality gastronomy.
You can also find different kinds of sport (horse-breeding farms, cycling, snorkelling, running), many cultural events, typical folkloristic traditions, charming ancient Churches, the best Amusement Park of all Tuscany next to the pinewood and the beach, the Blue Flag quality of the beach, sea and environment, shopping and night-life centres, architectural harmony of the typical old flowered houses, paved streets by old stones, spectacular sunsets, an amazing way to live an enjoyable stay.
